Resources

The Motley Fool

This is a great resource, they have a website which gives articles about the latest stock news, and they have a podcast which dives into stock news (Market Foolery) and individual stock analysis (Industry Focus). There is an Australian Motley Fool and a US Motley Fool. Both are great resources for learning about what moves stocks up and down day-to-day.

Seeking Alpha

This is a website and an app. You don’t need to buy the pro version, just use the free one. This resource is also great but gives much more thorough analyses of stocks. Use their search to find stocks you’re interested in and it will have a bunch of related articles about it. Don’t be scared off by how thorough these articles are, when you break them down they aren’t that complex, they just use a lot of jargon. These articles are essentially how a proper investment firm would analyse a stock, and can teach you helpful things about stocks you’re interested in. Another big benefit of Seeking Alpha is that you can follow stocks that you’re interested in and it will give you notifications whenever an article or news report is written about that stock, so it’s a good way to keep up to date about stocks you’re interested in. Unfortunately Seeking Alpha primarily focuses on US and big European stocks, not Aussie ones, so use the ASX app below and the Motley Fool Australia above to keep up to date with Aussie stocks.

ASX App

This app is pretty shabby-looking, but you can follow Australian companies on it. It will alert you whenever your company makes an announcement. These may include; updates on how the company is doing, half-yearly results, full-year results, investor presentations, and insider buying and selling. It only has the most recent announcements for each company on the app, but on the ASX website it gives all the company’s announcements since it began.
